One of the country's most accomplished yachtsmen, Mike has achieved a great deal of success in prestigious sailing races - both around the world and transoceanic. A former fireman, he is one of an elite group of sailors to have sailed around the world in both directions.
In 1994 he set a new world record when he became the fastest person to sail solo around the world in an east to west direction. In the 1996 / 97 edition of the BT Global Challenge Round the World Race he took first place with a team of crew members, establishing him as as one of the best in the world at both solo and fully crewed sailing.
He has also raced 4 Vendee Globe round the world races, has held many world records and won a number of awards, including one for bravery after he saved a fellow yachtsman in a daring Southern Ocean rescue. He was also awarded an OBE in 2007 for his services to sport.
Mike has remained passionate about sailing and is always keen to be involved in new projects and challenges. He is also a keen environmentalist who supports initiatives that improve the sports environmental impact.
