Speaker Profile

Well known British rower, Alex Partridge won a silver medal at the Beijing Olympics and a bronze at the 2012 London games. He also won three gold medals at the World Championships.

Alex developed a passion for the sport when he began rowing at school and it wasn't long before he had his sights set on taking it to an elite level. Success at the World U23 Championships saw him and his fellow teammates meet the standard required to be selected for the coxed four at the World Championships in 2001 in Lucerne. They proved to be a strong team and went on to snatch the bronze medal in the final.

In 2002 and 2003 Alex raced with the men's eight in the World Championships, winning a bronze in the latter. Olympic stardom beckoned, but sadly a collapsed lung forced him to pull out of the games in Athens.

Fortunately, with hard work and determination, he was able to overcome this major setback and was back to full fitness by 2005. Success followed in the form of three golds in the World Championships in 2005, 2006 and 2009, and an Olympic silver medal in 2008.

At the 2012 London Summer Olympics, Partridge won bronze in the closely contested men's eight event.
