Crawley-born Alan was world middleweight champion back in the days when there were not a host of ‘ABC’ titles. Alan won 39 of his 49 professional fights after a distinguished amateur career during which he was ABA middleweight champion and a bronze medallist in the 1972 Munich Olympics.
Minter won the European professional title in 1977, and in 1980 took the world crown from Vito Antuofermo with a points victory in Las Vegas. It was his bad luck that all-time great Marvin Hagler was waiting in the wings as a challenger and he took Alan’s title from him in September 1980 with a three rounds stoppage at Wembley Arena.
Alan has dozens of amazing stories about his life in boxing, and is always a knockout with his audiences.
